Bridge and other works

Tomorrow at 3 PM Meryl Mantione is giving her Faculty Artist Series recital. I am VERY much looking forward to performing the three songs by Frank Bridge (with James Helton on piano). They are dark, luscious, anguished, and full of emotion. I hadn't played them before we began rehearsing a number of weeks ago (and actually, had never heard them!), but in the last few days, I've found myself humming the melodies and haunted by the words. They are incredible works of music, and I do hope you can come out and hear them, especially if they are new to you-- you will not be disappointed. The interplay between the three voices is simply perfect, and the heart-wrenching motifs will stay with you long after we're done playing.

In addition to Bridge's songs, Meryl is singing works by Maurice Ravel and Jody Nagel, one of Ball State's composition faculty members. I know it will be an excellent recital. It is free and open to the public, at 3 PM in Sursa Hall. Please join us!

Happy practicing!
