Oh wow, what an intensely long and exhausting afternoon and evening! After a fairly easy morning, I had rehearsal for tomorrow's big Yo-Yo Ma concert from 2-4:30 and again 7-9:30. I was really dragging by the end, I hate to admit. It is difficult to stay focused and energetic after that much rehearsing.
BUT the orchestra is sounding really great! I'm so impressed by the level of musicians in the Symphony. Among a few Dvorak pieces and of course, the Elgar Cello Concerto, we are also performing Smetana's Bartered Bride Overture, which has A LOT of fast note. But it's coming together and sounding exciting and expressive! I really think it's going to be a great season. Maestro Cho really knows how to use rehearsal time well, and is a respectful and kind colleague. These are wonderful attribute in any conductor!
Lots more LSO tomorrow, and Mr. Ma! What a treat!
