Today I effectively "graduated" my first DMA student, Veronica Salinas. Of course I've only worked with her for a few months, so most of the credit should go to Renee Skerik, whom I replaced at TTU, but either way, I am so very proud of Veronica for all of her hard work implementing the ideas that I gave her in early September. She gave an exceptionally well-executed lecture/demonstration this evening on common pitfalls of violinists switching to viola. She covered many of the significant-- yet often overlooked by the non-violist-- points that make playing viola so very different than violin.
I couldn't possibly be more proud. I hope to have dozens of doctoral students like her.
